I stood on the side walk of my University waving goodbye to my mother excited to begin this new journey…Then I was slapped in the face by reality causing me to fall flat on the ground at this revelation…It was official….. I was actually an adult now.
I always thought that being an adult would be the best thing ever but I’d like my deposit back and I’ll be happy to return to my childhood.
Being an adult is funny when you really think about it, either you’ll be successful at it and handle all of the pressures and struggles of life with ease or get a panic attack, massive heart attack or seize under pressure. No biggie right…?
What really sucks is that we (new adults) were never fully prepared for this. It’s like we’re diving into the deepest part of the sea with no life vests…oh and did I mention that we don’t even know how to swim?
So what do we do? We weren’t prepared for this and we definitely didn’t sign up for this…What did we get ourselves into?
Below are 3 things that I did not sign up for when I signed the contract to officially be an adult.
1. Cooking: Don’t get me wrong, I have cooked before but I must admit that I HATE cooking. My first week of University I bought food almost everyday. Then I realized it really wasn’t worth it so I had to slave by the stove and cook for myself. Pasta is officially my new best friend in the kitchen.
2. Budgeting: I am not a Math person but when it comes to my money I will become Pythagoras himself…At an early age I was taught how to budget so this wasn’t new to me but I have truly learnt the value of money since coming to University. It’s like a magic trick, I can have 100 dollars at the beginning of the week, then when it’s time to purchase snacks at the end of the week I have to struggle to find a dollar. It’s like someone just comes around and performs a disappearing trick with my money.
3. Keep Calm: I’m fairly a calm person. However, as children, we all had the right to freak out on someone every once in a while if they crossed us. However, as an adult we’re looked at completely different under the eyes of the law. We can get in trouble with the law now if we overreact in certain situations. Being at University has truly taught me how to keep my calm. Some people have ZERO manners and they will bump you and knock you off your feet and wouldn’t even turn around to see if you’re okay but before you snap on them, remember that you can get in serious problems if you overreact so the next time someone attempts to cross you simply Inhale, Exhale and Keep Calm.
Being an adult is HARD but we gat this! 🙂
I have been at university for over two years and I am still struggling. 😦 You learn to cope as time goes by.

It was hard my first year. A young man who never learned how to cook or wash clothes. This is really beautiful!
