Well folks, it’s that time of year again when all of your Facebook friends parade around your timeline talking about their new goals for 2017.
I saw an interesting post this week that spoke on this topic asking why people post their goals for the new year without acknowledging what they’ve accomplished for the past year.
This post got me thinking.
What did I accomplish this year? Am I where I should be in my life, mentally, academically and spiritually?
I’m sure at one point or another in our lives we come to the realization that honestly and truly we’re not where we ought to be but guess what?! We’re not where we used to be either!
Despite not achieving all of the goals you’ve set for yourself over the past year, be proud of yourself for at least making an effort to become a better person. Living in today’s world is sometimes stressful and we get so side tracked by trivial matters that we forget what’s truly important to us.
As you go into the new year, don’t stop motivating and pushing yourself. There may be people in your life who may attempt to bring you down or make you feel bad about the fact that you’re not where you should be but they may not realize the challenges that you may have faced to get to where you are now. People may even tell you that your dreams are too big because they don’t think you’re good enough or maybe they have the ‘black crab syndrome’ and don’t want to see you doing better than them.
Ignore what the naysayers say about your dreams. Never stop believing in yourself and striving to achieve your goals. If you can see yourself in a particular position, never stop working toward making that dream a reality. However, you must remember that achieving your dream doesn’t come easy. There will be many disappointments amid the successes, many sleepless nights, many times you may question your dreams but do not give up.
Success doesn’t come overnight so don’t beat yourself up when things don’t go as planned. Instead, pick yourself back up, dust off and go harder than you did before.
You may not reach your goal in the timeframe that others have set for you but it’s not their life. Do what makes you happy and no matter how long it takes, when you’ve finally reached your goal you will truly be proud of yourself!
Elevate yourself in the new year and remember you got this!
