5,4,3….21!!

It’s so hard coming up with a catchy title for my blog post but guess what? I’m 21 now!! I’ve been 21 for some time now but I just got around to actually sitting down and blogging about it. For the first time in my 21 years, I actually feel…different. Yip, I’ve never felt different when my birthday came but this time there’s a sudden change. Is it because I’m officially an “adult”? Maybe, but more so I believe this is the year where I am called to put everything that I have learned into practice. With 21 comes lots of responsibilities. We’ve all made mistakes or done silly things in the past and I’m no exception. However, being 21 means I’m no longer entitled to make silly decisions. As the quote says, “When you know better, do better.” So what do I know that’s going to make me do better and make this 21st year the best one yet?

 

This year has been a year of growth for me in more ways than I can even imagine. As corny as it may sound I believe I actually found myself and felt empowered throughout this year. Many people saw the potential in me when I didn’t even see it in myself and I am beyond grateful to those people who believed in me. What does this 21st year have in store for me and what should the new year have in store for you?

Most people wait until the new year to start setting new goals for themselves and that’s great but each day we should strive to work on bettering ourselves. So what should we be focusing on this year?

Self-Discovery: Each day we may discover something different about ourselves, whether it’s a new thing that we like or dislike, a new hobby or being good at something that we didn’t even know we were good at. It is important for us to realize that this journey of self-discovery is an ongoing one and we never stop learning more about ourselves.

Vision: What’s your vision for your life? Do you see your name in flashing lights? Do you picture yourself being successful and living happily with a beautiful family? Do you want to be in that number who goes home in heaven to be with Jesus when He comes back? We all have different dreams and visions for our lives. Even though they may be different, it’s important for us to at least have one. If you don’t have a specific point that you aspire to be at how can you make a plan for your life? Many people create vision boards for their future relating to studies and work, home, leisure and travel and spiritual life. If you haven’t made a vision board before, consider creating one. Once you know your vision, you can then work on your mission which will help you to complete your assignment.

Assignment: Once you’ve begun to discover who you really are you will then begin to have a vision for your future then you will be able to figure out what’s your purpose in this life. We were all created by God for a specific purpose. Sometimes it’s hard for us to discover our purpose and that’s where our relationship with God comes into play. The more you talk to God, the more clearly you will see what it is that God created you to do.  We’re all on different assignments with the same mission in mind. Once you figure out what your assignment is, align your goals with your assignment. If you want to make a difference in other people’s lives by letting them know your personal story, write a book or start a blog! If you have a heart for giving back, volunteer with a charity that you’re passionate about. If you love children, work with the children’s ministry department at your church, volunteer at a school or spend time with children in foster homes.

Be a Blessing: I read a quote the other day that said, “It’s a blessing to be a blessing” and that is so true. During this yuletide season and throughout 2018 we should give more to others. It doesn’t have to be a special occasion for you to show someone how much you appreciate them. The best gift we can share with others is love. We may not always have money but just listening to a friend vent or helping someone with their work can go a long way and can make a huge difference. “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel.”- Maya Angelou. Make someone feel great in the new year.
