Reckless Love of God

This time so last week I was celebrating my birthday and when I look back on my life, the thing I’m grateful for most is God’s love and favour over my life. The name of the song Reckless Love received a lot of negative publicity when the song first came out. People felt like the writer of the song was trying to call God reckless. By definition, reckless is marked by lack of proper caution: careless of consequences. The writer of the song explained that God loves us despite the consequences. He knew the cost but was willing to pay the price for us anyway.  We don’t deserve God’s love because we constantly sin but He loves us anyway.

For a while now, I’ve had a position that I didn’t feel like I deserved and every now and again, thoughts of not being good enough creep into my mind. Then, I remember this song, Reckless Love. None of us deserves God’s love but He loves us anyway.

Nothing you do could make God love you less.

I read something this week that said that when you ask for forgiveness, God throws it into the sea of forgetfulness but when we keep thinking about that sin that God has already forgotten, it’s like we don’t accept His forgiveness.

No matter how far you’ve run away from God or how many days you’ve neglected to do your devotions, God will chase you down. God will fight for you until you’re found. In the parable of the lost sheep, the shepherd left the 99 sheep to look for the one sheep that was missing. He loved that sheep just as much as he loved the others and the sheep was important to him so he was willing to leave all those sheep just to find the one. People often say if you were the only person that Jesus had to die for, He would still die because that’s how much He loves you. We are all so blessed to be loved by God.

If you feel unloved or not good enough, take a moment to bask in the freedom of God’s amazing love and grace. Don’t question the favor God has over your life. It may take a while but once you experience the freedom that comes with accepting God’s love and forgiveness, you won’t be able to keep it to yourself.

We’ve all made mistakes in the past but that does not negate your worth and capabilities. We were all placed on this earth for a purpose. If you’re like me, you may have felt bad every now and again when you see posts about purpose and see people walking in their purpose and wonder what your purpose is. In searching for your purpose, think about how you can glorify God with that special gift or talent you have. This is a thank you for Him showing you that reckless love.

Despite our mistakes, despite our shortcomings, God has destined in us to have a purpose in this life.

So in whatever capacity you’re in, acknowledge the fact that you don’t deserve God’s reckless love and amazing grace. This should allow you to remember how important, special and valuable you are to God. God would leave the 99 for you so what are you going to do for Him?

We’re not good enough but He still loves us!
