When Life Knocks You Down

Hey guys! Did you miss me?

I know it’s officially the second quarter of 2019 but I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy New Year!

Sometimes ‘life’ comes around and it knocks you down, just get back up when it knocks you down.

Keri Hilson-Knocks you down

2019 did not start off the way I originally planned for it to and I’ve been in a mood ever since. While I considered blogging a few times I thought maybe it would be better to talk about overcoming the “funk” once I came out of it but guess what? Three months later and I’m still in the funk. So why am I writing? If I’m being honest I’m currently in a boring lecture so I decided why not write? (Don’t be like me) Lol.

So throwback to 2018. I was very passionate about achieving a particular goal. I would spend lots of time watching YouTube videos, reading information on google about it, messaging people who had done similar things and I tried everything I possibly could to figure out how I could successfully make this dream a reality. When it did not come into fruition when I thought it should have I was so frustrated. Then guess what? I put this goal on the backburner because it didn’t happen when I wanted it to.

What can we learn when life knocks us down?

1.Stop. Take inventory and recalibrate: This is something that I need to do. I have been doing a lot of procrastination and stressing about various things and for some reason I’ve just been avoiding doing this. However it’s important to take time to figure things out. Was the idea aligned with God’ purpose for my life? Did I seek Him enough during the process? If one way doesn’t work, go back to the drawing board and see if there’s another way that it could be done. Go over plans and see what needs adjusting. One thing that I’m trying to remind myself is no matter what don’t give up. (Say it a little louder for the people in the back i.e. yourself).

No matter what don’t give up!

2. Trust the Process: We all have goals and dreams that we want to achieve and sometimes the process takes a little longer than expected and things do not always go the way we planned. While it’s easier said than done, I would like to steal a quote that I saw a million times on Instagram in saying “Trust the process.” Timing is everything and sometimes there’s a reason why things don’t happen exactly when and how we want them to. It’s important to understand that it takes time for things to turn out the way it’s supposed to.

So in this current moment I am still in a funk, still disappointed due to various things, stressed with my final exams coming up and completing all of the necessary tasks to start my new program later this year but here I am writing to tell you and myself not to give up, recalibrate and trust the process.

If you’re stressed, feeling discouraged or in a funk don’t be afraid to reach out to someone. Also be kind to yourself and remember that you gat this!

Thanks for reading xx

This blog was created during my first term of Law School. This journey has truly been a roller coaster ride and I want you guys to come on this journey with me as I go through the ups and downs of surviving as a young adult and I hope you're inspired by some of the lessons I've learnt along the way.
