I remember my experience at one of my previous jobs. Every morning when I arrived at work and logged onto the computer I would check my WIP List. My WIP List contained all of the assignments that I had to complete for that day so they were considered a Work In Progress. Once all of the assignments for the day were done it was my duty to take initiative and start the assignments for the next day.
As we embark on this second quarter of the new year, I can’t help but wonder what is my assignment for today.
For the last year, I’ve been hearing this buzz word “Purpose.” Influential people on my social media would constantly stress the importance of knowing your purpose and walking in it.
In The Bahamas, the month of April is celebrated as Purpose Awareness month and the theme for this year is Unleash. The goal of this annual initiative is to get people thinking about the bigger picture and discovering why they were created and what they can give back to the world.
I always felt a little unsure about what exactly my purpose was. However, while there is a bigger picture I think it was important for me to understand that I can be used wherever I am.
I was not placed on this earth by mistake and I did not come to England by chance. I remember in September 2016 when I arrived here I just thought I was here to get a degree and leave but my purpose here was so much greater than that. I became active at my university and at my church. I discovered my gifts, talents, likes and dislikes (mostly dislikes and things that annoyed me…j/k). Each day I learned a little bit more about myself and each day brought me one step closer to my purpose.
I had to remind myself that just like on my job, I had to take initiative and complete assignments. We all have different assignments on this earth at different seasons in our lives. We all have a purpose. There is a reason why you are in the position/place where you are right now.
If you’re anything like me, sometimes you may get nervous and feel inadequate to do certain things. However, I was reminded that this is why we should not depend on ourselves. If we depend on ourselves, our insecurities will get the best of us but when we depend on God, we can rest assured that because God is with us we can do so many wonderful things. There’s a dream on the inside of all of us but many of us are afraid to go after it. We are afraid of what people will think, whether or not we’ll get support and other excuses may cloud our minds. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly is my purpose but right now I’m trying to complete the assignments in my WIP List for this season.
What better time than now to complete your assignments in your WIP list to bring you one step closer to truly unleashing your purpose.
Do you know why you are in the position/place where you are right now?
