One of my favorite things to do is watch television shows which means I hate when shows have to come to an end. If you’re anything like me, this Wednesday your regularly scheduled program will not be aired. Our beloved telenovela, Jane the Virgin is officially over. For 5 years, my eyes have been glued to the television (or phone) screen anticipating who Jane will choose in the end, the handsome, confident hotel owner Rafael or the sweet, kind, police officer, Michael.

I was #TeamRaf since Day 1 resulting in a roller coaster of emotions watching Jane’s story play out. When Rogelio entered the scene as Jane’s long lost father, I couldn’t help but develop his mantra, “Inhala, Exhala.” I have cried and laughed with the Villanueva family.
Whether you are a huge fan of Jane the Virgin or not, here are a few things the dramedy has taught me.
1. Life has many twists and turns: If you followed the show at all, you would know that Jane’s life was far from perfect. After being artificially inseminated to having her baby kidnapped to other traumatic experiences that I won’t mention just in case you haven’t watched the show yet, Jane went through it all! Life will throw things at us that we never saw coming. There may be lots of rough times that we have to figure out how to get ourselves through but don’t give up.

2. Don’t quit your passion/side hustle: We know Jane as the sweet waitress at the Marbella Hotel by day and by night, the aspiring writer, who wrote incessantly throughout the series with hopes that she would one day become a Bestselling Author. She received lots of shut doors and there were many times that she wanted to quit. However, she persisted and kept on writing. Throughout the show, she wrote 2 books, the second being the one that would be her big break. If Jane had quit her passion project and stopped writing, she would never have basked in the moment of finally getting her book published. Many of us today work a 9-5 but we have passions that we’re working on on the side or dream of working on. Don’t give up on your passions. Like Jane, your big break is coming.
3. It always works out in the end: SPOILER ALERT- Jane is the epitome of a hopeless romantic. Throughout the show, Jane dates her fair share of guys. While some ended worse than others, it left one question, whether true lasting love really exists. The answer was a resounding yes when we saw Xiomara and Rogelio, Jane’s parents get married, Alba, Jane’s grandmother and Jorge get married and on the finale, Jane and Rafael get married!!! I know my #TeamRaf squad was over the moon for such a beautiful ending to Jane and Raf’s love story.
Be it love like Jane and Raf, a business venture like Jane’s book or some other thing, just know that it all works out in the end. Life ends up the way it should be in the end. If you’re going through a rough time right now, then that means this is not the end.
I will truly miss Jane the Virgin and all of the lessons taught throughout the show. If you haven’t watched it yet, you should add it to your Netflix list.
I hope you enjoyed these few lessons from Jane the Virgin. If you watched the show, what was the biggest lesson for you?
