Fear is crippling. It stops us from going after our passion. It hinders us from taking that risk to make our dreams come true. Fear feeds on our insecurities and amplifies them so when we look in the mirror we see the version of ourselves that fear paints, not the strong, intelligent, talented, gifted person that God created.
“God created all of us with a purpose. We all have various talents and gifts that the world needs to see/hear/experience but fear will try to get us to never show the world our gifts.”

In 2019 I faced a few of my fears. I love spoken word poetry and I perform at open mic nights when I can. Earlier this year, I entered a poetry competition. Petrified is an understatement of how I felt about entering the competition. While I did not win, just the fact that I ignored my fears and went for it made a huge difference for me. I was so proud of myself.
Then, just a few weeks ago I faced another fear of posting a video of me doing spoken word poetry on instagram. While I enjoy doing spoken word poetry, I was nervous about how it would be received on social media but I’m happy I did it. I also created a page on Facebook for my blog and poetry called Scharsmind.
It’s such a great feeling to face your fears. When it’s all done, nothing compares to that sense of pride that you feel in yourself.
As 2020 quickly approaches, I can’t wait to face more fears in pursuit of my passion.
Fear may try to cripple me but it will fail
Fear will try to get in my head but there’s no space here for that
Fear cannot abide here because God lives here
Fear has no victory here because God has already won
What is fear holding you back from doing or what fear have you faced this year?
