Perfect Peace: Peace Series Part 1

IMG_0330Today is part 1 of the Peace Series. You can expect a blog post from me every Saturday for the next 4 weeks on the topic, peace. This topic was chosen because it is important for us to understand that we can receive peace in the midst of this pandemic. After each blog post there will be a list of questions for you to answer. I’ll add the questions at the end of the blog post as well as on my social media pages so follow me on Facebook and Instagram @scharsmind. I want to hear from you! Your answers may be featured in an upcoming blog post!

When you hear the word peace what comes to mind? A tranquil beach with the sun rising? Or maybe the sign people throw up with their fingers when they’re saying goodbye or trying to act cool in a picture. The great Encyclopedia of Google defines peace as freedom from disturbance, tranquility. Synonyms include calm, silence, restfulness.  When I think of the peace defined in the Bible, I think of confidence, assurance, knowledge that there is something greater ahead in the future so I can remain calm in the present.

There are many texts in the Bible that talk about peace. Here are my top 4 (I know you’re asking why not 5 but why 5?).

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

-Isaiah 26:3

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. –John 16:33

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”– Philippians 4:7

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.” John 14:27

From these verses, we can see that God wants us to have peace. Perfect peace comes only from God. In order for us to truly experience the peace found in God, we need to ensure that our mind is stayed on Him. What are you focusing on? The turmoil going on in the world or the trials going on in your personal life? Or are you focusing on God who is able to grant you peace in the midst of the storm?

God lets us know that living in this world will be difficult but we should still remain joyful because He has overcome the world and although we may have struggles in this world, in Him, we can have peace. So in the midst of your tests and trials remember that God’s peace will guard your heart and your mind. We may take a walk on a secluded beach in The Bahamas and say that that’s the true definition of peace but remember that the peace God gives us is so much greater than the peace given to us by the world. Do you want to experience the peace that God gives? Let us focus our thoughts on God and meditate on His word so that we can experience perfect peace.

As you deal with self-isolation and social distancing, take time to meditate on the Bible texts mentioned so that you can experience that true peace that is only found in God.
