I was the lone purple tulip in a sea of white….
I love Oscar Wilde’s quote that says, “Be who you are..everyone else is taken.”
It is so true. In the world we live in today, there is clearly an identity crisis going on. It is so difficult for people to be themselves in a society where people want to look like everyone else. Despite the negative opinions of others, be true to yourself and ignore the noise in the market.
Have you ever entered a room and suddenly felt like you did not belong? Have you ever felt as though you just weren’t good enough?
Often times, we go through different situations in life where we question who we are as individuals. It’s not because we aren’t good enough but rather because we allow doubts to cloud our mind and fear to get the best of us. Sometimes, we realize that we are afraid to be who we are because some negative person may whisper in our ears that we’re too outspoken or too soft spoken. Then, the negativity clouds our judgment and we begin to underestimate ourselves.
It’s okay to be outspoken…
It’s okay to be overly expressive if that’s who you are. If you tend to show emotion and speak with a lot of passion to get your point across that’s okay. Just remember that you should not overpower someone else while they are speaking but when it’s your time to speak, do your thing!
It’s okay to be soft spoken…
Not everyone is sociable or friendly and that’s okay. If you are soft spoken, embrace it. People will love you for it. They will love your ability to remain calm in situations and to create a pleasant ambiance to a room. You’ll be surprised whose day you will brighten just by your beautiful smile.
Other qualities define who we are as people but should not determine how we are viewed in the world such as the colour of our skin, our gender, our beliefs, our socio-economic status.
Instead, qualities that people should see when they look at us should go beyond our outward appearance. People should see resiliance, strength, loyalty, passion and many other qualities that you think define who you are.
It’s okay if you’re not readily accepted by others, you should remain resolute and stand your ground.
You are who you are and you should never change the person you are just because someone doesn’t appreciate your individuality.
In this identity crisis that the world is currently going through, embrace what makes you who you are and be uniquely you, a Shining Star! 🙂
“Faithless To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Thanks for the reminder that being me is more than enough! I often think my passionate views on life are too much for others to handle, but it makes me, me 🙂

Wow I really enjoyed this. Thank you! I am considered soft spoken and people always labeled me as quiet. It used to bother me but it really doesn’t anymore.

This is such a beautiful post. At first I thought it was going to be about being single and terrified about ‘dying alone’ lol. Which, honestly would have also hit closet to home, but this was a pleasant surprise and a nice reminder. Thank you.
