Transmutation

So you want to be a diamond huh? Do you think you have what it takes?

Did you know that a diamond took many years to form in the earth before it became the finishing touch on a wedding ring or other forms of jewellery?

Carbon undergoes intense transformation to become a diamond. We admire things without knowing what had to be done for it to get to the position that it’s in now.

A diamond first began as carbon dioxide buried deep into the earth. Then heat was applied followed by pressure.

Many of us aren’t where we want to be but guess what?! We’re not where we used to be either. Each day we have an opportunity to wake up and chase our dreams and get one step closer towards fulfilling our purpose in life.

What we sometimes forget is that greatness does NOT happen overnight. I saw this post on Facebook earlier this year talking about transmutation. Don’t judge me but I didn’t even know that was a word (I know what you’re thinking, someone really needs to expand their vocabulary). Transmutation is considered the process by which a state of being changes into another form.

We all see things as the final product without acknowledging the process it went through to get to where it is today, just like the diamond!

Even caterpillars undergo transmutation to become butterflies. What can we learn from their story?

Phase 1 – You may think this is IT but it’s not!

A caterpillar goes throughout its short life crawling around thinking it’s the best thing ever created (that’s if it thinks, my Science friends can help me out with this). But that’s not the end for the caterpillar.

Some of us are content with where we are now but my advice is to never limit what God can do in your life. You have so much untapped potential so don’t think that you’ve made it just yet. God has so much more in store for you if you let Him in.

If you haven’t heard already, Apple Inc. is worth one trillion dollars! Do you think that’s stopping the technicians from improving their designs and strategizing to determine how they can have the edge over their competitors? No! Every year Apple Inc. releases a new product and continues to transform the face of the digital communication market and they’re not done yet.

Do not stop improving your art and striving to better yourself. This is not the end for you. Your condition is not your conclusion so keep writing your story. You may think this is it but it’s not! Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to get to where you need to be.

Phase 2 –  Elevation requires discomfort.

Can you imagine how sad the caterpillar must have been when it felt its body changing and noticed this weird thing starting to cover its body?

Sometimes we need to be uncomfortable in order to grow to our full potential. Diamonds are made under pressure and lots of heat; so what’s a little discomfort? This discomfort may come with cutting off branches that no longer bear fruit such as friends who bring you down instead of lifting you up.

This may also require you going into a silent season where you hibernate (go into your laboratory and become a mad scientist if you have to!) and work on your goals without announcing them to anyone. This may include having meetings with people who can assist you in achieving your dreams, making business plans or creating business cards, applying for scholarships or small business grants, writing that book or even starting/expanding that blog!

BEWARE, this phase may take longer than we intended. One thing about this microwave generation is that we expect everything to happen instantly. We abhor waiting, but sometimes waiting is good.

Imagine being a caterpillar in a cocoon. Do you know how many things you can think about and work on? You can even plot world domination with all of that time (just kidding, don’t do that). Enjoy the beauty in waiting. As someone I look up to once said, “Stop calling it waiting, retitle it preparation.”-Zemi Stewart

While you may be uncomfortable and anxious about the next phase, do not rush the process!

And while you’re in this season of waiting, you can add one more thing to your list of things to wait for, like Phase 3 of this process in the next blog post!

What are you waiting for? How are you preparing to receive this?

What is the most stressful part about this process of transmutation?

Let me know in the comments!

This blog was created during my first term of Law School. This journey has truly been a roller coaster ride and I want you guys to come on this journey with me as I go through the ups and downs of surviving as a young adult and I hope you're inspired by some of the lessons I've learnt along the way.
