Unpacking

Taking trips is an exciting experience but how many people actually like packing for trips? It’s so hard to decide what to carry and sometimes we end up carrying too many things which is why many people HATE packing; but do you know what’s more annoying than packing? Unpacking! It’s the dreaded task that takes us weeks to complete and if we’re being honest, some of us haven’t unpacked everything since our last trip. But why do we hate unpacking?

In life, we purchase so many unnecessary things and add it to our suitcase but when it’s time to unpack we’re too lazy to open the suitcase and remove some things that shouldn’t be there anymore.

As the years go by, we add things to our suitcase that make the load heavier to carry so why not strive to start unpacking this week?

There are many different things that we need to unpack and everyone may have different things in their suitcase but below are some common things that no longer need to be in our suitcase:

  1. Self pity: Often times, we compare ourselves to people and we may think “Why am I not as smart, successful or good looking as that person?”. These thoughts do not need to be in our mind but sometimes we can’t help but to compare ourselves to others. As a result, when we think we’re not good enough we wallow in self-pity. You are more than enough! We need to come to the realization that everyone is different and everyone does things in their own time. We may not be where we want to be right now but just know that God has a plan for all of our lives so there is no need to fear.
  2.  Hurt: Nothing is worse than being hurt by someone we thought truly loved and cared about us. However, in order to move on and grow it’s imperative to let go of that hurt. Hurt holds us back from discovering all of the things that truly make us happy. Holding on to hurt affects us more than it affects the person who actually hurt us. In order to fully let go of the hurt that may be harbouring in our hearts we have to learn to forgive. Once we forgive the person who hurt us, it will be easier for us to embrace what truly makes us happy without allowing our thoughts to drift to that time when we were hurt by someone.
  3. Laziness: No matter how much we try to deny it, we have all been lazy atone time or another. Sometimes we just have a lack of motivation to do something. It’s okay because we all have those moments. However, laziness isn’t something that should remain in our suitcase. Completing small tasks may assist us in combating laziness because small tasks may lead to big tasks and then before we know it we’ll end up being productive.
  4. Procrastination: I would love to meet the person who has never procrastinated before. We do it without even noticing. I read an article that talked about SOCIAL PROCRASTINATION NETWORKS. Many of us are guilty of spending hours on end on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat; you name it…Being on these sites is okay but when we realize that these sites are taking up too much of our time we have a problem. This is where self-control comes in. If it’s good for you, use it in moderation. If it’s bad, cut it out. Try to limit time spent on social procrastination networks and attempt to do some work. It will be surprising how much can be accomplished when we’re not scrolling down our newsfeed.
  5. Denial: This is a broad area because there are many things that we may deny so this point encompasses anything that I may not have mentioned. Sometimes we have a problem and we deny it but the first step to dealing with your problem is to admit that you have one. We all go through life with different issues that we refuse to address, not knowing that it is hindering us from fulfilling our full potential and being the best version of ourselves. Admit to yourself what you need to unpack and then come up with realistic ways in which you can begin to release that thing from your life.

Unpacking is not fun but it’s necessary in order for us to pack the things that we actually need for our next trip and our journey toward self-growth and fulfillment. It’s important to release things that are affecting your growth or causing you to remain stagnant in the position that you are in. We are all capable of achieving so much but we need to unpack the things that are no longer necessary in our lives in order to make room for the things that we do need.

What do you need to unpack?

This blog was created during my first term of Law School. This journey has truly been a roller coaster ride and I want you guys to come on this journey with me as I go through the ups and downs of surviving as a young adult and I hope you're inspired by some of the lessons I've learnt along the way.

  1. I know I have a lazy habit so that is something I have to work so hard to get rid of especially as a blogger. I love that you make it seem like it’s not horrible — since many people are lazy. You also point out that it can be fixed and easier than we think. We that supportive guidance a person like myself can get rid of their laziness. Love this post!
